Bollywood Sex Symbols: Thirty Sexiest Actresses
Most people in America are plenty familiar with Hollywood and the various sexy actresses that appear in the movies it produces. Unfortunately, most Americans are not familiar with Bollywood, India’s version of Hollywood and a source of many of the world’s beauties. Let’s try and rectify that a bit by meeting some of the hottest women Bollywood has to offer.
Brinda Parekh
If you’re not familiar, Bollywood is the informal term popularly used for the Mumbai-based Hindi-language film industry in India. The term is often incorrectly used to refer to the whole of Indian cinema. There is a substantial amount of India’s cinema that is not included in the term Bollywood. That means that a number of great looking women were not eligible for this list. For one example, look to your left at Brinda Parekh. However, Bollywood is the largest part of the Indian film industry and one of the largest in the world.
The women of Bollywood are generally from India, although there are exceptions. Remember this is a country of over a billion people, so there’s plenty of women to choose from. For reference, India is almost quadruple the population of the United States. Many of the women on this list got their start in models and beauty pageants. There’s a few Miss Indias and at least one Miss World and one Miss Universe in these rankings. In fact, India has had an amazing run of success in international pageants, reflecting the great beauty of their women.
Simran Kaur Mundi
If you’re looking for future faces of Bollywood, one might start with current Miss India Parvathy Omanakuttan. You can check out pictures of her in our Miss World 2008 post. Or maybe you’ll simply enjoy a picture of the Miss India runner-up, Simran Kaur Mundi. I’ve posted one to the right for your viewing pleasure. The future prospects look good.
Of note is that there has been a growing presence of Indian English in Bollywood films. It is not uncommon to see films that feature dialogue with English words and phrases, even whole sentences. There are also a growing number of films made entirely in English. Maybe we will soon see a blending of the two hemispheres with more of these women in films that can easily be seen in the United States.
Until that time, however, you can enjoy these rankings and get to know some women you might not yet know of:
30. Minissha Lamba
Lamba’s initial ambition was to become a journalist, but while studying she pursued modeling as a hobby and it stuck. She soon became a top model in the industry, and proceeded to slide over into movies in 2005 where she now spends most of her time.
29. Kaveri Jha
Jha is touted as the next big thing to hit Bollywood. She’s done some films in the South, but is currently signed on to a number of major Bollywood projects. The former air hostess and model fits the definition of ‘dusky beauty’ and should be making movies for years to come.
28. Nisha Kothari
Also known as Amoha, Kothari is known mainly for her daring costumes and sexy item songs that have been popular. Only 25, she looks to have some of her best work in front of her.
27. Payal Rohtagi
As a model, Rohtagi worked for big name brands, but gained attention after appearing in a television ad for Cadbury’s Temptations Chocolates. This helped her career in Bollywood take off, where she first appeared in a Hindi remake of the Hollywood teen flick American Pie. And odd production for a generally conservative country. She’s moved up to more respected fare, and remains a sizzling on-screen presence in whatever film she’s in.
26. Mona “Sherlyn” Chopra
Born Sherlyn Chopra, but often credited as Mona Chopra, the sex bomb entered the Bollywood industry with some C-grade movies. She has tried many different ways to gain publicity, often appearing in extremely hot poses, photo shoots and movie scenes.

They look white/hispanic because they all have a fair amount of European (mainly British) blood that has blended through several generations with Indian lineage. Also, they don’t need to emigrate from their home country because they’re already doing well enough back home (because they’re hot!). Lastly, those girls are movie stars, so they’ll have extra makeup and touch up done to look even prettier.
That said, I’ve seen a number of 2nd generation Indian gals here that are quite stunning… they’re just not too common in Hollywood for some reason.

@joe – Not entirely true. Indian-European lineage is not that common. Most of these girls are “pure” Indian.
Without makeup – That’s another story. Most of them look ‘ordinary’ without make up.
All these women are beautiful but I don’t think they showcase all the beauty of India. Ahem, the dark complexioned women. I know there are some fine darkskinned beauties. I understand the mindset that the fairest skinned (whiter) they are the more attractive but thats only because thats all we see on TV and in Bollywood. I don’t know much about Bollywood, but I’m guessing anyone dark skinned would probably not get the good roles in films.
Again this is something of a world view.

That is absolutely ridiculous. First of all, you propose a hypothesis without any backing. Indeed, most women on this list come from upper-middle class families–this would have been impossible as an Indian woman impregnated by British officers would have been socially ostracized into poverty.
Also, contrary to popular belief, there were very few native British soldiers in India. Essentially, white British officers commanded an army of mainly Indians.
Last, but not least, Indians have an obsession with “fair” skin; therefore, the “dark” beauties would never make such a list as no profit-loving photographer/director would risk his or her career. There are notable exceptions, however, including Bipasha Basu.

Absolutely agree with you. Thailand is much the same as India in this. There is very little chance of foreign men or women marrying into high class families. The majority of famous or powerful people are from these families.
That said with the growing popularity of very light skinned models and stars some mixed race individuals have made it onto front pages and into televisions careers.
Many Thais, like Indians, are very light skinned and other almost black. Thailand was never occupied by a European power and this skin tone difference has been around for millennia!
Light skinned people are considered more attractive and get the best jobs.

I think Aishwarya Rai is about the only women most people have heard of, so I’d expect many to expect her to be #1. But even in India, she’s usually not considered the sexiest. There’s a lot of good looking women, so it’s no shame in finishing 6th. But’s as Dennis Miller would say, “That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.”

Indian have inferiority complex, these are select from 1 billion people and only comparatively fair skinned make it big, and even then its lot of light. Have you ever seen Bollywood movie in the making, its like lights every where, to make them look fairer then they are! Indian would be very happy to tell you how he is related to white people, some billion years ago ;) Not to mention fake colored eyes, its every where, did you ever went to Indian wedding, omg, ever girl has green eyes.

I think John and Jinny (and “James”, who I suspect from his poor English is not a native English speaker, and probably has an inferiority complex of his own) have made a good point. Given this almost universal preference for fairer skin (ie mean look at the actors and actresses on Mexican TV – they’re all blond(e), quite unlike most Mexican people you might meet) – it surprises me that some drug company out there hasn’t figured out that a simple melanin suppression treatment would have them minting, literally minting, money.

“Sam,” I completely agree with you. I’ve also noticed Latino/Hispanic television shows have many blonde women (and some men) on there but everyone who has mentioned that they are Mexican in person had natural dark hair. I’ve also heard from a Latino friend who grew up in central america that “lighter” Latinos think dark Mexicans are “ugly and beneath them.” And then these “Indian” women who have blue eyes and (in my opinion) Caucasian/European bone structures… I normally only see this type whenever I see an Indian film etc. I’m basing this on a theory, but I doubt some of these women are “totally Indian.” Unless you’re albino, wouldn’t you have to be part Caucasian (or completely Caucasian) to have NATURAL blue eyes?? (that is if they are natural.) It’s just a thought – I could be wrong as well. Why don’t these Indians put (more) dark Indian women on there? ALSO – I remember watching some random show on TLC (or what have you) and they were talking about Japan and showing their cities etc… and besides the Japanese models on the bilboards…. the only other race was the European/Caucasian race on various bilboards… Why is that?

Mel1981…I think most of them are full Indian with makeup and contact lenses. I am Indian and not at all mixed and have cousins with blue eyes. We have no idea where it comes from but we’re not mixed and there is no white ancestry in us. I also have cousins with dark skin. Indians don’t all look the same- there are thousands of ethnic groups.
