Promoting Content
As you know, one way we can compensate you for your contribution to Gunaxin is by paying you cash for the page views that your article does. So in order for everyone to earn as much as possible, we need to try to increase page views. If we all contribute to promoting content, then everyone will succeed with more traffic.
In general there are three ways that we promote content:
- Links from other Sites : For the purposes of sending / submitting links to sites through e-mail, The Editors do that usually on a nightly basis. We typically select 2-3 articles that we send out to a list of sites. We are currently working on expanding and categorizing that list, to make it as effective as possible. Although you have a Gunaxin e-mail address, we would prefer that you not send links in to other sites, specifically so that we aren’t duplicating efforts, confusing relationships etc. If you have a good site that you think we should add to the list, please let us know, and we will do so. If you have a good relationship with a site, also let us know about that, and we may be able to leverage that, with you sending the links to that site in that particular case. We are also a member of several networking / linking groups (a few of you are in those groups with us) that are very effective at sharing traffic. Those groups can help us to promote our content as well, and we submit whatever good stuff we have, regardless of who wrote it. So really the best way you can help in this area is to help me make sure we have a good list of sites to submit links to. Direct e-mail contact is easiest, but we can also make a list of bookmarks to submissions forms where appropriate. Keep in mind our 6 areas of content, and where content would do best to be submitted.
- Social Networking : Gunaxin has a Twitter account and a Facebook Page. Every article published is automatically tweeted, so if you have your own twitter account, you can follow us, and re-tweet interesting links when you see them published. You can also do your own tweeting when you are particularly proud of your own work. In addition, on Facebook you can share links on your own profile, as well as utilize our Facebook page to network with our users. The Facebook Page automatically brings in our latest links, and you can help highlight that even more by making comments on Facebook under those links. If you have any other thoughts in this area, let me know.
- Social News Sites : We currently utilize Digg, Reddit, Stumbleupon, Mixx, and BallHype. To a lesser extent was have tried ShowHype, Propeller, and Buzz. In general these sites like quality submissions, from a variety of different people (and for those people to submit a variety of different things). Once something is submitted, all of these sites work essentially the same way. More votes and comments are better and with a large group of contributors, we can help get articles moving quicker than a smaller site can. In general the suggestion would be to submit your content to as many of these sites as makes sense. With Digg however we tend to be a little bit more selective on what we submit, because it takes more effort to be successful there, and flooding the site with our content doesn’t really help us. Also Digg is very dependent on the person who submit content, so if you do not have a strong account, it would be better if you do not submit your own articles. Once something is submitted, you should alert your fellow contributors via e-mail by e-mailing the group at Contributors@Gunaxin.com. We try to maintain a daily thread for promotional purposes. If you know of any sites similar to these that we should be trying, please let us know.
The Social News Sites have an entire science behind them, so in the future I will be expanding upon this documentation to help you effectively promote your content on those sites.
