Hot North Carolina Tarheel Girls
The Battle of Tobacco Road, or otherwise known as the Carolina-Duke clash, is arguably the greatest rivalry in all sports. Each school has a great basketball tradition and are separated by a mere eight miles or so. The schools battle it out at least twice a year, and this Sunday was the second match-up on the season. Of course, more was on the line than a simple regular season match-up. For one, it was Senior Day at Chapel Hill. For another, second ranked North Carolina stood poised to overtake the number one position in the polls after Connecticut’s loss to Pittsburgh. And finally, a win by Carolina would give the Heels the outright ACC regular season crown. A loss would leave Duke and UNC tied with a 12-4 conference record.
Well Carolina and stars Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson were not to be denied. They walked off the court celebrating another Atlantic Coast Conference championship and a victory over their fiercest rival. The 79-71 defeat of seventh ranked Duke also allowed the Tarheel to lay claim to the new #1 ranking in the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls.
So to celebrate their victory, their conference championship, and a potential new number one ranking, here are the girls of UNC-Chapel Hill:
