Mike Tomlin, Blackest Head Coach to Win Super Bowl?

It has been several days since the Steelers won the Super Bowl, and something just occurred to me. I haven’t once heard that Mike Tomlin was the 2nd Black Head Coach to win a Super Bowl. Sure I have heard plenty about Tomlin being the youngest coach to win the big game, but race hasn’t been an issue. I am reminded of the brief article I put up for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, where I mentioned Tony Dungy being the first black coach to win the Super Bowl. I pondered at that moment, if the next guy would just be “the coach who won the Super Bowl.” Well apparently I was wrong, because age was more important then race this time. However I am reminded of just how far we have come in such a short amount of time. Honestly I wouldn’t have even thought about Dungy or Tomlin being black, if the press hadn’t brought it up. I guess that just signals that I come from a different generation, and it truly doesn’t matter anymore.
