The Final Four begins tomorrow, and I am sure all of the pundits will breakdown the game for you. At Gunaxin, we don’t really care about all of that crap, so we just go straight to the babes. To all the men,
This is by far one of the most irrefutably disgusting ideas I have seen since the Miss America Pageants. Way to go men, objectify and opress women once again. Next to Miss America, Playboy and Girls Gone Wild, this is mysoginy at it’s finest.
The fact that we (as in men, although it isn’t limited to men because there are many women who objectify eachother as well.) need to take a stand against this debauchery, because beauty is not objective and it does not have one single definition. Having a competition as to who is the most beautiful (or in this case “hottest”) is wrong. Imagine yourself in their shoes, constantly worried that you won’t meet the expectations of society because of events like this. Imagine yourself in uncomfortable clothes (or not in clothes), posing in uncomfortable positions, just to make a few photographs that completely stereotype you, making you into a two dimensional caricature that completely devalues you of all of your complexity. All for the sake of knowing that you met the expectations of people who will then masturbate to the likeness of your image. But it’s not even your image, because to the viewer you are just some person in a highly sexualized, highly objectified context just for their pleasure. And you have no control over the way that you are presented or who you are presented to. Having thought about that, how do you feel? Uncomfortable? Now consider this: imagine that images of you or people like you are constantly, no obsessively, portraying you and those people like you in the mass media in this manner. And while they do this they also while brainwash the general public to believe, or at least try to brainwash, that in order for them, their friends, and you to be “sexy” or “valuable” you have to meet the expectations of this idealized image over and over and over again.
This is what it is like to be a woman in Sexist America.
If Pittsburgh made it to the final 4 this article would have never been possible! Talk about a bunch of dogs…
